TOPS Middle School Physics Workshop

July 11, 2016 – July 15, 2016

This five-day science Workshop is intended for rising 8th and 9th graders who are curious about science. No previous experience is necessary.

TOPICS

The Workshop will provide hands-on activities with waves and light, and heat and energy. There will be opportunities to tour the research laboratories of the Center for Ultracold Atoms and other MIT sites.

The Workshop is sponsored by the MIT/Harvard Center for UltracoldAtoms (CUA) through its program Teaching Opportunities in the Physical Sciences (TOPS). CUA is sponsored by the National Science Foundation

PARTICIPANTS

The Workshop is open to 12 students

COST

Because the full cost of the TOPS Middle School Physics Workshop is provided by the Center for Ultracold Atoms through its grant from the National Science Foundation, there is no charge to the participants.

STAFF

The Workshop will be taught by a staff of undergraduate physics majors under the supervision of experienced science teachers.

HOURS

The hours are 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. Lunch is provided.
The last day, Friday July 15th, will be a half day. Dismissal will be at 1:30pm.

Please Note:  TOPS is a day program only.  Participants not living in the Boston area must be under the supervision of a local adult and must secure their own housing independent of MIT.

LOCATION

The Workshop will be held in the MIT/Harvard Center for

Ultracold Atoms (CUA) at MIT, on the 2nd floor of Building 26. The Workshop Headquarters are in room 26-204.
The Workshop is less than a ten-minute walk from the Kendall T station.
